Shaving up, wearing a dhoti, chanting on the streets and attending mangala arati at 4.30 a.m. are some of the things experienced by new Krishna devotees, and Marc Ellis well known TV personality and former All Black rugby player, did just that from Friday, May 25 to Sunday, May 27 at the Radha Giridhari temple in Kumeu.

ImageFive sannyasis visited the Auckland Radha Giridhari temple during the last week of April.

Kalasamvara member of the temple council said His Holiness Prabhuvisnu Swami, HH Ramai Swami and HH Devamrta Swami, were all present for the ISKCON Annual General Meeting which took place over the weekend of May 28 and 29.

Local devotees were treated to their lectures and association during the period. Also visiting the region was His Holiness Bhakti Caru Swami, together with HH Janananda Swami. Enlivening and informative lectures were given by both sannyasis at the temple and at home programmes.

ImageHis Holiness Srila Bhakti Caru Swami Maharaja appeared in this world, on 17th September 1945 at Kolkata, West Bengal. He spent most of his early life in the city of Kolkata. During 1970 he left India for higher studies in Germany, where he came across Vedic Literatures and discovered the richness of the spiritual heritage of India. In 1975 he returned to India to wholeheartedly pursue the spiritual path.

On 3rd April the Mayor of Moscow signed a decree alloting 5 acres of land for a Hare Krishna temple in Moscow. Although the agreement was reached many months earlier, the signing of the official document brings to fruit several years of tireless efforts.

A conceptual design for the complex has been already approved by the Planning Committee but work continues to obtain full regulatory approval.

On behalf of Sri Sri Radha Giridhari Mandir, a group of devotees are visiting houses all over Auckland to spread the glories of this spiritually auspicious month, and to engage as many people as possible in serving the Lord. The number of programmes conducted to May 27 were 34. There were 30 guests who attended. Books distributed amounted to seven, and chanting beads distributed were 11. A total amount of $1620.00 was received from donations.

Bhavishyottar Purana states that one who observes Purusottama Month with faith and devotion will go Back home, back to Godhead to serve Radha-Govinda eternally in Goloka Vrindavana at the end of his life.

A programme to farewell departed Vaishnava, His Grace Suhotra prabhu was held at his disciple Padmasambhava’s home in Glendene, Auckland on Thursday, April 12.

In Padmasambhava’s absence, Rohita, also a disciple, performed an arati, followed by chanting, pushpanjali, and rememberances.
