ImageOn December 9th the Hollywood film ‘Bee Season’ opened in UK cinemas, starring famous actor Richard Gere. The story focuses on a Jewish scholar played by Gere who attempts to mould his daughter into a Kabbalah prodigy when he discovers she has an uncanny ability to spell. At the same time, Gere’s character’s son embarks on a spiritual quest that culminates in his joining the local Krishna temple. The filmmakers consulted ISKCON members in Berkeley, California, and featured several devotees in scenes depicting Krishna worship services.

Bee Season raises important questions about family dynamics and obligation, freewill, personal choice, control, understanding, and religious pluralism. Richard Gere once was a regular guest at the Los Angeles Sunday Feast when he was an unknown young actor.
