ImageIn April the sudden death of Nitai Priya at the age of 26 shook the Auckland community of devotees. Nitai Priya, also known as Anita Joseph was the youngest of three and the only daughter of Sripati and Purnamasi, long time supporters of the Auckland Radha Giridhari Temple. Nitai Priya attended gurukula (school) at New Varshan farm in Kumeu, and her childhood friends shared memories and realizations at her funeral.

Nitai Priya is survived by two older brothers Janardana and Sesa who both spoke at her funeral. They expressed their deep gratitude for the overwhelming support the family received from the devotee community. Image

In the 13 days that followed the funeral, nightly gatherings to read from Bhagavad-gita were held at the family home in Henderson. It became a time for deep spiritual introspection and reflection, and the devotees were uplifted and comforted by the association during this time. The fortnight ended with a 24 hour kirtana at the family’s home and which continued at the Radha Giridhari temple. This was followed by a feast organised by Sripati and family.
