 | | Kalasamvara, Chris Carter, and Dina Bandhu | A ‘million dollar’ painting of Krishna and the fruit seller is being used to repay the current debt on the Radha Giridhari temple in Kumeu.
The mural, says artist Dina Bandhu from Ukraine will cover a wall measuring 4.1 metres by 2.8 metres in the main worship hall of the temple.
A small painting of the mural was unveiled by Ethnic Affairs Minister Chris Carter on July 23, and this will be auctioned at the temple on August 16, 2006 together with a painting donated by Colin Greenwood of ‘Jagannatha-Baladeva-Subhadra’ by Ramesh Candra Maharana (Master Artist at the Jagannatha Puri Temple). Work will begin on the mural when the $1-million dollar target is reached. Organiser Ketan Patel says more than $60,000 has already been raised from local and international devotees who have been asked to donate a minimum of $100. In his speech, Mr. Carter said that the prime minister at the time, David Lange, who laid the foundation stone for the building, had been very attached to the Temple. Donations can be made via the website: www.iskconnz.com/1million or Phone: (09) 849 740 Visitors are welcome to visit the temple at 1229 Coatesville-Riverhead, Highway to see the art work.
