Japanese scientist, Masaru Emoto, author of The Hidden Messages in Water, has performed experiments on how the written and the spoken word can change the structure of water. His findings are amazing and confirm for me the power of chanting and developing love of Krishna.

Emoto discovered that “crystals formed in frozen water reveal changes when specific concentrated thoughts are directed towards them. He found that water from clear springs and water that had been exposed to loving words shows brilliant, complex, and colourful snowflake patterns. In contrast, polluted water or water exposed to negative thoughts, forms incomplete, asymmetrical patterns with dull colours. The implications of this research create a new awareness of how we can positively impact the earth and our personal health.”

Some scientists are expounding the theory that water is coming from outer space and Emoto discusses this in his book. In the beginning stages of their research they are not quite sure but perhaps in time they will understand through science what Srila Prabhupada has informed the world about the origins of water. Developing love of Krishna, which is the only way we can learn to unconditionally love all living entities, and chanting the holy names of God, we can change the consciousness of the world. Because the human body is 70 per cent water, these experiments show how much unseen influence the devotees are having on the consciousness of those who hear the chanting.

Prayers by a Shinto priest, for an hour as he stood on the edge of a lake, resulted in the water getting clearer “right in front of our eyes” said observers of the experiment This proves scientifically that carinamrta and maha water would also be in an altered state having passed over the body of Krishna with prayers and offered with love. Prasadam, cooked with devotion and offered to Krishna with prayers could perhaps be shown to have changed physically through these experiments proving, for those who need scientific proof, that Prabhupada is right about the ability of prasadam to change the consciousness of the eater.

The power of the spoken and written word is subtle but enormous, and we should be very cautious in all our speech and emotions. We should project love and gratitude toward every living entity.
