ImageAucklanders will be treated to a unique experience at the Auckland Town Hall, The Edge on March 10, when the audience will be entertained with authentic traditional Indian classical and semi-classical music both vocal and instrumental, together with a ballet portraying Lord Krishna’s life with his associates in the small village of Vrindavan 5000 years ago. “We are bringing well known artists from India and are also promoting local kiwi talents from Auckland and Wellington” informs Divya Govinda one of the organisers of the project

Five friends were inspired to put on this concert and Divya Govinda a resident of Riverhead along with Amrta Pani, Asraya Nitai, Rohita das, and Roneel Naidu are working hard to bring to Aucklanders this cultural feast. “Most of what we see about Indian music is Bollywood music, and we felt that India is much more than just Bollywood. India’s classical music is both spiritual and entertaining in nature and dates back thousands of years” says Amrta Pani.

What began as a small plan by Divya Govinda, one of the organizers, to raise funds to develop a yoga meditation centre for the local community in West Auckland, has developed into a major show with the support and encouragement of people and businesses in the district.

Amrta Pani says the concert is not only to raise funds but to also raise awareness of the beauty and values of the Indian culture, and it will be a wonderful and entertaining ethnic event that can be enjoyed without having to leave the shores of New Zealand.

The show begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 10 at the Great Hall, Town Hall, The Edge. Tickets are priced at $20, $30 and $40 and are on sale now at Ticketek 307 5000 or through Amrta Pani on 412 6108 or Divya Govinda on 412 5220
