 | | Broken donation box | The smashing of the Radha Giridhari temple donation box and the theft of the Sunday feast donations calculated at around $300 to $500 during the night of Sunday, January 28 was probably committed by someone familiar with the local devotee community suggested the local police in Huapai.
Divya Govinda said he had arrived at the temple at around 3.30 am and found money scattered on the floor in the temple room.
The theft of the donations took place only weeks after the burglary of Kalasamvara’s unit when several items of electronic equipment were stolen. A donated rice cooker has also disappeared from the Deity kitchen.
In early February a female devotee living on her own on the farm was forced to move to a more secure unit when she reported that someone had been banging on her windows during the night. She was terrified and did not feel it was safe for her to remain in the house.
The police said that those living in the community need to be vigilant and to investigate any suspicious activity, and that steps need to be taken to improve security in the temple. Any money in the donation boxes should also be removed as soon as practicable to take away any temptation.
