A programme to farewell departed Vaishnava, His Grace Suhotra prabhu was held at his disciple Padmasambhava’s home in Glendene, Auckland on Thursday, April 12.

In Padmasambhava’s absence, Rohita, also a disciple, performed an arati, followed by chanting, pushpanjali, and rememberances.

Rohita said Suhotra prabhu’s body was found on April 9, but the date and time of death is uncertain. The official post mortem confirmed the cause of death was a massive cardiac arrest. Suhotra prabhu who resided in Mayapur, India was found lying on his bed with his hand in his bead bag and a light chadder lying across his body and legs. On Tuesday, April 3, he had announced to his class that he would be starting a one month marathon of study and writing and wouldn't be free to give class anymore.

Suhotra prabhu became a disciple of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in 1976 and spent his first few years distributing Srila Prabhupada's books, as a member of Radha Damodara Travelling Sankirtan Party.

In 1972 he travelled to India, visiting the holy places and preaching the glories of Lord Krishna. A year later he based himself in Germany, from where he later expanded his preaching to eastern European countries and Scandinavia.

During 1988 to 1991 he visited many Asian and Australasian countries and at this time he became a member of ISKCON’s Governing Body Commission (GBC) for 11 years. His area of responsibility was Norway, Finland, Benelux, Poland, Czech

Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria and Greece.

Well known for his deep understanding of the philosophy of Krishna Consciousness he became a member of the Shastric Advisory Council in 2003 to assist the GBC in answering philosophical challenges .

From March 2005 Suhotra prabhu resided in Mayapur
