October was the month chosen by the New Zealand Police to launch a new book, “A Practical Reference to Religious Diversity”, designed to help the police to meet the needs of the ethnically and religiously diverse community it serves. It provides information about major religions in New Zealand including, religious background, death, gender role and family, sensitivities and religious practices.

Two venues were chosen for the launch, one in Christchurch which was attended by Rasikananda dasa (Police Constable Rakesh Naidoo) together with devotees from the Christchurch temple.  The second venue was in Otahuhu, Auckland, and Ciran Jiva dasa, Temple Manager, and four young devotees from the Hare Krishna School were invited to chant an auspicious prayer for the success of the book.  The children were well received and also had the opportunity to serve prasadam to the guests including Police Superintendent Roger Carson, Mervin Singham, Director of the Office of Ethnic Affairs, Deputy Police Commissioner Steve Long, Sister Catherine Jones of the Auckland Interfaith Council and other heads of churches.  A Christian minister commented that he was impressed with the behaviour of the Hare Krishna children.
