 Divya Govinda das a disciple of Radha Govinda Goswami is determined to perform his new service as Head Pujari (priest) at the Radha Giridhari temple to the best of his ability. He was trained as a pujari in the Bombay temple where the worship of the deities is very strict and opulent. He says he is very particular about cleanliness.
Before taking up his new position, Divya Govinda spent three and a half years in Wellington performing deity worship and for the past two years, also acting as restaurant manager. The restaurant was voted “Best Indian Restaurant” from around 50 restaurants in the Wellington area. Divya Govinda was raised in a musical family in Jagannatha Puri and is a very well known and popular kirtana leader and musician.
 | | Sridama Das | Sridama das the official purohit (priest) for the Radha Giridhari temple comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience having been raised in a South Indian Brahmin family. From a small child he was trained to perform rituals and to chant vedic mantras. This education, and living in ISKCON temples for most of his life, enables him to perform vedic rituals for weddings, child naming, and house-warming's. Sridama das is a disciple of Gopal Krishna Goswami. Sridama is also a an accomplished musician and kirtana leader and learned in vedic philosophy. He has a Masters degree in English and completed his education in media studies. This led to positions in film and television in India until he went to Wellington for one year. The next three years he spent in Christchurch at the New Zealand Broadcasting School studying digital post production for TV and film. Two of these years were spent freelancing as an editor and doing special effects.
 | | Rasabehari devi dasi | Rasabehari devi dasi can be found in the temple office six days per week with her new duties as secretary, receptionist and book keeper. Rasabehari is back in Auckland, and living in Glen Eden with her 18 year old son who will be studying at a technical institute in the new year.
After living in the North of the North Island she says she is feeling very enthusiastic about her new job and is happy to be back. She lived on New Varshana farm 14 years ago, when she took care of book keeping and accounts. Rasabehari is a disciple of His Holiness Indradyumna Swami. When asked what she found challenging about the job, she replied that it would be made easier if when leaving messages on the answer phone, callers should speak slowly and clearly. The office hours are Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm and Sunday 12.30pm to 3.30pm. |
